The story of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia and the others didn't end with the destruction of the Death Star - it continues in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. Imperial forces have since driven the Rebels to hide on the ice world Hoth. But even on such an icy, backwater world, they cannot escape the wicked Darth Vader's eye for long, and he devastates the Rebel base in an assault with the horrible AT-AT walkers. Luke flees to Dagobah to begin Jedi Knight training with Yoda, while Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia and C-3PO run the blockade of Imperial Star Destroyers in the Millenium Falcon. The Imperials pursue them across the galaxy and eventually catch up with them at Bespin. Now Darth Vader plans to use them as bait to lure Luke Skywalker to him, and turns Han Solo over to Boba Fett as a prize to be delivered to crime lord Jabba the Hutt. Luke learns a terrible family secret after losing a swordfight with Vader. Will he - and the others - escape the Empire's clutches?

- Following Star Wars was never going to be easy but this is actually better. Empire retains the same characters and the same sense of fun that the first had. However what gets added to that is a much darker strand. The Empire is not beaten by the destruction of one ship, it's power is barely dented in fact. This sees some startling revelations but also sees significant blows to the rebellion. In fact the ending of this movie could not be more different from the end of Star Wars. Like the recent episode two this follows two strands, the more pedestrian scenes with Luke Skywalker and Yoda and the more action based scenes with Han Solo and company. The scenes with Yoda add depth to the movie and hint at the truth. Meanwhile the other half is a lot more action orientated and has comedy and good new characters such as Bobba Fett. The two work well together and come together well for a great finale. The addition of a dark strand to the movie makes it all the better as it can be enjoyed as a story and not just a fun sci-fi movie with good effects. The characters are better here than the first. The strong characters from the first are all still good here. However we also get a much more interesting version of Luke Skywalker as he continues his journey into becoming a full Jedi. Yoda is a good addition and Darth Vader becomes a lot more than just a good villain. Overall this is as good as Star Wars at it's heart, but the darker nature of the movie makes it much better. All the music, characters and things that make Star Wars are here and it's simply one of the best of the series to date.

- Hard to judge if this or " Jedi " is my favourite of the original trilogy,both of them are excellent films...but very differant to each other, this movie was very dark and yet showed more depth to the characters..and it ended with the bad guys winning..not often that happens..init.

- The best Star Wars film out of the six that have been made. It's everything good about the first film and more - it's darker and more violent than the first film, and there is also a philosophical aspect to it as well. You need to see the first of the orginal trilogy first though, as the story is the middle part of an ongoing story that the trilogy as a whole tells. Since some of the special effects have dated and everyone knows the plot twist when Luke Skywalker discovers he is Darth Vader's son, the film is not quite as good as it was back in 1980.
